First let me apologize if this repeats someone else's efforts...
1) Freeze topic - Frequently I have seen confusion from people bumping a very old topic and dates or prices are wrong. For example, the announcement for last year's decompression party is causing confusion in this year's LA Burners tribe. If the moderator could have frozen it when it was posted, or just after the event, then this confusion could have been avoided without losing the data contained for posterity.
2) Pin Topic - This allows the moderator to pin a topic at the top of the list. This is particularly handy in FAQ tribes when you want the rules of that tribe to remain at the top. But any tribe with a topic might want announcements, events, etc to stay at the top regardless of the conversations that come after. Pin and freeze would make for excellent combinations.
3) Read New (thread)- after about 80 or 90 posts, particularly if they're lengthy ones, it can be hard to find imbedded new posts (which isn't helped by the rollover color being the same as the "new post" color). It's all good when they're at the end of the page, but it can quite a search to find them in these stacked threads. Clicking the asterisk next to a new thread could lead directly to the first new post (or whatever).
4) No pictures - The image server can sometimes really drag down the experience. Having a "pictures off" switch would reduce the hits on the image server, and help rock people's experience. This would also help those people with content sensitive environments (work, home with kids, etc).

Not a bad idea :) -

Re: Freeze, pin, read new, and no pics
Sat, September 12, 2009 - 1:14 AMAs I think about it, maybe give the creator of a thread freeze capability as well, like the "delete entire topic' power.

Sat, September 12, 2009 - 1:16 AMOh an addendum to the no pics idea. Perhaps a "pics once" option. It won't reduce the strikes to the image server, but it would help reduce the length of threads and the overall raster time.
