So while looking at some tribes, and joining some tribes, something popped up in my mind. For them moderators on tribe, well for anyone, what happens lets say if for some reason we want to join a tribe, but the moderator dies, and we can't get to join that site any more because the moderator's not "available" I know "most" tribes you can get in just like that, but what about them others that needs the moderators decision? I know it's kind of a far off topic or a question, but I think it would be good if there was an option to have at least another moderator or three moderators for a tribe. Like in any business there's a "President", "Vice-President" and so on-

Re: Moderators on tribe / option
Sun, November 30, 2008 - 1:42 PMGood Idea, because even though I am not dead, I was usubscribed in the data loss debacle and moderated tribes that I either can't remember the exact names or were private. There is no way I can get back to them, and they are now just dead weight wasting space.
Multiple moderators would easily take care of those problems. -

Sun, November 30, 2008 - 10:26 PMYes, that could be a good idea. There could be Moderator/Creator and then various admins appointed by the first moderator. -

Would be neato but also very risky.. risky because ... say the creator makes everyone administrators.. it sounded like fun.. but then one of the new moderators decides he is pissed at the creator of one of the other moderators and deletes the whole tribe. What other problems could be faced in multiple moderator.?

Re: Moderators on tribe / option
Sat, December 13, 2008 - 11:32 PMIt is an interesting idea - I think there would have to be a hierarchy of functionality.
It seems like the biggest task is dealing with content moderation, but my inclination would be to leave changing the status of the tribe (private, moderated, public, extant) and the users would be an authority that shouldn't be delegated. -

Sun, December 14, 2008 - 6:29 AMJust thought I should share my thoughts.. I can totally see this happening to the burningman tribe which would be a shame.

Mon, December 15, 2008 - 7:26 AMI would let the membership elect the admins -

Re: Moderators on tribe / option
Mon, December 15, 2008 - 2:02 PMOne new feature we're talking about implementing is silent polling. This can be used for holding elections and voting on administrative decisions within a tribe, among other things. The polling within a thread idea is basically useless in a tribe of more than about 15 active members. -

Nice idea.
I am on another site (orkut) and one of the things which I love about it is that you can run polls. The results are shown as graphs and you can only vote once - anonymously - or you can declare your vote. Obviously there are more urgent thinks to do for you guys - but it might be something to keep in the back of your mind.

Re: Moderators on tribe / option
Fri, December 19, 2008 - 1:26 AMHow many years have there been Co-Sysops?
The concept can work well.
Bottom line is there are a lot of features that would be nice to have in tribes, but those features should be set up by the moderator on toggles. If they wants assistants, then they appoint them, if not, there isn't. what works for a tribe of 15 may not for a tribe of 12,000. Flexibility is the key.
The idea of letting tribe members pick the admins is laughable though. I mean, if we're going to do that, then let's let the users of tribe vote for who the staff is. He with the biggest Alt-Net wins! ;)

Re: Moderators on tribe / option
Mon, January 12, 2009 - 2:00 AMits been gone over and processed before i suggested the same thing years ago shortly before being tossed out of the brainstorm tribe.
they apparently tested the software to do it back then on that tribe..
and have implemented it in a few other tribes that were very popular...

Re: Moderators on tribe / option
Mon, January 12, 2009 - 11:06 PMMultiple moderators in a tribe is an option, but the moderators must request it from us (help@tribe.net). The interface supports only one moderator's avatar in the moderator position, but others can be appointed moderator as well. -

Re: Moderators on tribe / option
Tue, January 13, 2009 - 5:09 AMIt's good for the larger tribes such as Burning Man, and in the case of another private tribe I belong to, the tribe always functioned with co-moderators, although 1 is no longer very active on the site.

Tue, January 13, 2009 - 1:11 PMDon't forget, we've only been managing since November, and it didn't come with a whole lot of documentation... -

Re: Moderators on tribe / option
Tue, January 13, 2009 - 4:18 PMYou have done a great job working your way though all of it considering the lack if dicumentation you have to work with. I'm sure once a new code is written your job here will be a lot easier. Less unknowns!!
