Re: Save Tribe
Tue, October 30, 2007 - 8:37 PMI'm a tribe/group leader here, and aside from the fact I have no idea what Burning Man is about, I think I can safely say I am not a traditional tribe person, either. I am a milldy disabled artist/writer/ theater & film person. I also dabble in direct sales. I have worked as a volunteer for the local Scottish Games, so I am into the Celtic heritage thing, too. All this aside, I have no idea what's going on with/in tribe, and I can pretty much say if I had to give $100, I would be out of the picture and tribe as well-I'm divorced and getting no alimony, my ex is gone who knows where? So yes I do like tribe, but I am one of those low/tight budget people who relies on my pc to make me some money, but I sure am not Donald Trump, at least not yet, anyway... -

“not a traditional tribe person,”
Well. I am in Australia and it is a very remote chance I would attend burning man.. even if I was in the US… I had never heard of it until I joined tribe...
There are all sorts of folks from many counties on Tribe. It is certainly not “just a San Francisco” nor “Burning Man” community – although they do provide the focus for some members.
<<if I had to give $100>>>
I think any cost in being on tribe should be voluntary. Me – I can afford $100 and would happy to give it to tribe if there was a mechanism and request – including if it meant I was supporting people like you who could not contribute financially but through content. I would be happy to help keep tribe going for all of us. One of the strong things about tribe is its diversity and anything that threatened that would be bad..
Cheers from Melbourne in Australia

Re: Save Tribe
Fri, November 2, 2007 - 4:35 AMI honestly think Tribe is floundering & will be dead in the near future. Those things you mentioned are VERY serious issues, especially for a social networking site. And I also dont think people are gonna put up with too many things or try too hard to save it when they can just go to another site that has their act together like Facebook. Thats just the reality of the beast.
Im not sure what can be done. The site needs backing, support, a strong community & innovation that seperates it from the other guys in order to grow. Its hasnt gotten any of those in quite a while. So, dont turn to the members & expect them to save it. Its honestly not their jobs to do so.
I made a post earlier in this Tribe about how much Tribe has been sucking & none of the responses backed it up. Well, whatever. But if you dont admit there is a problem, how the hell are we gonna solve it?? There OBVIOUSLY is, so I wasn't just BSing. Obviously I cared or I wouldn't have made the post. Hell, I wouldnt even be part of Tribe itself, cause lets face it, other sites offer more.
Anyways, these types of sites are fickle as hell. I think the big TOU debacle a couple years back was the beginning of the end & alienated a big chunk of Tribe's diverse user base.
